Abstract

The impact of Covid-19 in the second quarter of 2020 still disrupts the process of production, distribution, and consumption due to the level and scheme of virus transmission that attacks the most fundamental aspects of all our activities, namely physical interaction between humans and forcing us to implement social / physical distancing policies.
The economy of Bengkulu Province in the second quarter of 2020 measured by the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on current prices reached Rp. 17.96 trillion and based on constant prices in 2010 reached Rp. 11.45 trillion.
Bengkulu Province economy in the second quarter of 2020 (y-o-y) grew negatively by 0.48 percent, when compared to the second quarter of 2019 which grew positively by 5.00 percent. From the production side, the highest negative growth was achieved by the transportation and warehousing business fields by 11.17 percent and wholesale and retail trade by 4.32 percent. Meanwhile, from the expenditure side, all components experienced a contraction, where the highest contraction was achieved by the consumption component of LNPRT, which amounted to 13.94 percent.
The economy of Bengkulu Province in the second quarter of 2020 (q-to-q) grew negatively by 2.98 percent compared to the first quarter of 2020. From the production side, the highest negative growth was achieved by the transportation and warehousing business fields by 14.50 percent. From the expenditure side, the highest negative growth was in the exports of goods and services by 8.52 percent. The economic structure of Bengkulu Province in the second quarter of 2020 was still dominated by the fields of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries by 28.99 percent; wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repair 14.53 percent; and government administration, defense and compulsory social security of 10.13 percent. Meanwhile, from the expenditure side, it was still dominated by household consumption expenditure components and imports of goods and services, each of which amounted to 64.06 percent and 61.31 percent.
When compared with other provinces on the island of Sumatra, Bengkulu Province is the province with the smallest contraction of economic growth (y-on-y), amounting to 0.48 percent. Meanwhile, the provinces with the largest contraction on the island of Sumatra are Riau Islands by 6.66 percent and Bangka Belitung Islands by 4.98 percent.
